Celebrating a Milestone in Marine Conservation
Over the past two years, Jord has proudly supported the ongoing development of the East Bintan Marine Protected Area (MPA), an effort led by the incredible team at Konservasi Indonesia and government partners.
Together, we have:
– Inaugurated the MPA Information Centre, a fully government-funded facility (1.1 billion rupiah) now serving as a regional hub for coordination and community engagement.
– Established three new community surveillance groups (Pokmaswas), bringing the total to seven, empowering local villages to protect their marine resources.
– Raised the EVIKA score from ‘minimally managed’ to ‘optimally managed’.
– Received national recognition; Pokmaswas Perisai from Mapur Island ranked 2nd best in Riau Islands Province.
– Gained a direct request from the Government of Indonesia to expand marine protection work in priority waters as part of its national plan to increase MPAs from 32.5M to 99M hectares by 2045.
Virginia Simpson, Country Manager at Conservation International Australia, shared “None of this would have been possible without the steadfast support and faith placed in our team by Jord, and we can’t thank you enough.”
We are honoured to have played a part in these achievements and look forward to continuing this partnership to protect vital marine ecosystems for generations to come.
