As EPCM contractor, Jord’s brief was to all but double plant capacity by adding a third train.  To make this maths add up, Jord had to stretch the boundary, by installing what remains to this day the world’s largest multiple hearth furnace.

Jord’s kiln, the heart of the expansion project, calcines magnesium carbonate (magnesia) at a temperature of 1,050 deg C. The product, magnesium oxide (magnesite), is used as a ceramic coating material for the harshest of applications, such as blast furnaces in steel plants.

Included in Jord’s scope were material conveying systems, a rotary cooler, (3.3m dia x 25m), a baghouse to comply with clean air emission regulations and associated equipment and plant controls.
