SERVICE C4287 Eliminating hydrate formation in air coolers
Customer was experiencing the formulation of hydrates in their air cooler during the winter months.
Jord was engaged to undertake thermal simulations to determine modifications necessary to avoid sub-cooling and the formulation of hydrates in an air cooler operating during the winter months.
Various actions were identified that included the blanking off of fans, reducing the number of and the pitch of fan blades and installing louvres.
These steps were undertaken by Jord’s service team and eliminated sub‐cooling and hydrate formation in future years. The modifications were configured in such a manner that the equipment could easily be shifted each season between the summer and winter configurations.
SERVICE C3849 Air cooler service life enhancement
The Client wanted to understand if there was an option to increase capacity and reliability of aging air coolers based on predicted future gas flows.
Jord was engaged to undertake a mechanical and thermal review of the air coolers and determine what options were available to optimise the performance under the new conditions.
Jord visited site, conducted various tests and prepared an Implementation Report, setting out scope, budget and timeframe to support client’s medium & long term planning.
SERVICE C5055 Air cooler erosion, corrosion and performance enhancement
Due to the erosion identified in the initial investigation on performance drop, extend the investigation into a study of the internal flow characteristics of the air cooler header boxes and undertake thermal simulation to determine the optimum solution and modifications necessary to both remove the potential for excessive erosion and attain overall performance increase for the coolers. |
|
Undertake modifications of the equipment, supervise installation and commissioning and monitor. |
|
The solution included a re‐configuration of internal header design to remove the risk of excessive erosion and, through Jord’s innovative design, re‐use of existing monel tubes. |
Client Benefit:
Erosion vortex eliminated significantly extending the life, reliability and performance of the air cooler. |
|
Jord’s revised design attained a 12% increase in thermal duty. |
|
50% reduction in the capital cost originally estimated by client as necessary to resolve the problem. |
