This story begins way back in 1975, to one of Jord’s very first orders, a rotary drum vacuum filter delivered to the Pioneer Sugar mill in the far north of Queensland. These filters have a tough life. They lie idle for six months each year in hot, humid conditions, before getting flogged to death the remaining six, extracting sugar juice from cane mud.
This particular filter had been a work horse, providing reliable service for the past 44 years. Up until this year, it even had its original steel-on-steel bearings, made from cast iron. Nowadays, theyre fabricated in steel.
Fast forward to 2019 and Jord received notice that our filter finally needed some loving. The original worm drive and trunnion bearings had reached the end of their life. The trunnion bearings were replaced with a modern polymer lined version. And the gearbox was re-built. Could this give her another 44 years? Next update in year 2063.
